Port Townsend man gets 50 months in prison for eight felonies

PORT TOWNSEND — A 25-year-old Port Townsend man has been sentenced to prison after pleading guilty to eight felonies in a plea bargain that dropped 10 counts.

Camron Louis Jevne pleaded guilty to the felonies June 17 and was sentenced by Superior Court Judge Craddock Verser to 50 months — more than four years — in prison and 50 months’ probation.

He also must complete a drug treatment program.

Jevne pleaded guilty to four counts of motor vehicle theft, two counts of malicious mischief, one count of possession of stolen property and one count of conspiracy.

Ten charges were dismissed, said Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Chris Ashcraft.

Jevne will be incarcerated a minimum of 25 months, Ashcraft said.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said Jevne had been arrested on investigation of thefts and attempts to sell stolen property over a period of nine months.

Ashcraft said Jevne would be required to pay restitution on all stolen items.

The Sheriff’s Office gave this account:

In July, four vehicles were stolen in the Port Townsend area.

They were found stripped of parts near the Port Townsend Paper Corp. mill. One had been repainted.

Following an investigation, a team consisting of sheriff’s deputies, OPNET — Olympic Peninsula Narcotics Enforcement Team — officers and Port Townsend police officers served a search warrant on Jevne’s residence at 291 Stevens Ave. in Port Townsend.

During the search, law enforcement officers said they found parts from the stolen vehicles as well as other evidence.

Jevne was arrested then.

Jevne was released on bail awaiting trial and was arrested again Aug. 24 on investigation of stealing two jet skis, an all-terrain vehicle and two electric handicap scooters, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Ashcraft said that while in jail, Jevne used a code to pass instructions to accomplices.

Jevne attempted to orchestrate the theft of two additional all-terrain vehicles, a golf cart and a pickup truck, and also attempted to sell stolen property, the Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies broke the code, called an accomplice and pretended to be friends of Jevne.

A deputy made an appointment with the accomplice to steal a car and then arrested the accomplice, according to Ashcraft.

Ashcraft did not name the accomplice because he is cooperating with police.
