Port Townsend: Look for higher water pressure in Morgan Hill area

A $1.1 million pumping station to increase water pressure in Port Townsend’s Morgan Hill area is expected to go online Thursday.

Fire hydrants and about 100 residents will benefit from the project, which was ordered by the state Department of Health.

The new pumping station is on Port Townsend High School’s athletic field.

Notices have been given to residents warning them that the increased water pressure could burst old household plumbing.

The project was started last July, and the need for the extra water pressure was evident during the Aug. 4 Aldrich’s grocery fire, City Engineer Eric Page said.

Several other measures will be taken this summer to increase water pressure throughout the city, Page said. New water mains will be installed on Ivy Street, along Sims Way on Castle Hill, and between Discovery Road and Hastings Avenue through the new Laurel Heights development.
