Port Townsend: Laurie Allyn in “Paradise”

“PARADISE”‘ WAS ORIGINALLY recorded in two session in October 1957 by Mode Records.

It consists of 11 jazz ballads and one Broadway tune, all arranged by Marty Paich. Four are accompanied by brass instruments, including trumpet solos by Don Fagerquist, one of which is up for a Grammy nomination.

Eight songs were recorded with a string section led by Felix Slatkin on violin and harp, Al Viola on guitar, Fagerquist on trumpet, Paich on piano, Vince de Rosa on French horn, Paich on piano and Mel Lewis on percussion.

The original album was engineered Bones Howe, who remastered and sequenced the CD, released by the label V.S.O.P. as #111 Mode 130.
