Port Townsend: Kolff named mayor

PORT TOWNSEND — Kees Kolff was elected mayor and Freida Fenn deputy mayor Monday as the new City Council started its term.

The City Council chambers at City Hall were filled beyond capacity as three new members took their oaths of office from City Clerk Pam Kolacy.

Fenn, Kolff and Michelle Sandoval were sworn in. The other newest member, Catharine Robinson, took her seat late last year to fulfill an unexpired term vacated by Forrest Rambo.

Councilman Geoff Masci demurred from continuing as mayor after fellow Councilman Al Youse nominated him.

Kolacy then asked for other nominations and Kolff’s was the only one proffered.

Fenn nominated Kolff and he was elected by secret ballot with six council members in favor and one abstaining.

Kolacy then handed the gavel to Kolff for his first duty as mayor — the election of a deputy mayor.

Sandoval nominated Fenn and no other nominations were made. Fenn also earned six votes and one abstention.
