PORT TOWNSEND — Investigators today may announce the cause of the fire at historic Aldrich’s grocery in the Uptown portion of the city.
Although investigators have been tight-lipped about the cause of the fire and aren’t saying whether it might have been arson, there was an unusual turn of events Monday afternoon when a detective took a teenage girl into the burned out building.
They were overheard talking about how a friend of the girl reacted to the fire.
City Manager David Timmons and Fire Chief Ed Edwards refused to identify the girl or say what role she plays in the investigation.
Timmons said a news conference could be scheduled as early as this afternoon to announce what caused the early morning fire Aug. 4 that destroyed the building.
