SIMI VALLEY, Calif. — The Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and General Electric announced that Rose Ridder, a graduate of Port Townsend High School, was one of 20 students nationwide who were awarded the GE Reagan Foundation Scholarship.
Out of 13,000 applications, only 20 were selected to receive $10,000 a year, for up to four years, to be applied to student tuition, room and board while the recipient is pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited U.S. college or university.
Ridder will pursue engineering at Swarthmore College in the fall.
She also received an honors Associate Degree of Arts from Peninsula College through Running Start, a state initiative to give students in the 11th and 12th grades a chance to take college courses to accelerate their education.
This scholarship program, which just completed its fifth year, awards students who embody the vision and values personified by the late president, including leadership, drive, integrity and citizenship, the sponsors said.
