PORT TOWNSEND — Many golfers feel they were blindsided by an idea to construct a visual performing arts center at the Port Townsend Golf Course.
Lively comments from golfers set the tone for Monday night’s City Council meeting as they spoke out against the project that has been quietly discussed in the arts community for the past two years.
Only at a Jan. 9 Economic Development Council meeting did the plan become public.
Responding to concerns about the idea, the City Council called for a community meeting to discuss the facility.
The forum will take place Feb. 12 at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers of City Hall, 540 Water St., Port Townsend.
City Councilwoman Michelle Sandoval, who is part of about a dozen people in a group steering the idea, said Tuesday she feels much of the concern is premature.
“This is a long way from being anything,” she said.
