Initiative author Tim Eyman canceled a scheduled weekend appearance on the North Olympic Peninsula on Wednesday — the same day that the state filed a complaint against his admitted pocketing of campaign funds.
Eyman was to appear at the Jefferson County Republicans Lincoln Day Luncheon and Silent Auction in Port Townsend on Saturday.
Event organizer Bob Balck said he talked to some of Eyman’s top advisers Wednesday.
“I think they want to give him some time away from people until it cools down a bit,” Balck said of the controversy surrounding Eyman.
In Olympia, the state Public Disclosure Commission filed a formal complaint Wednesday against Eyman. The agency will investigate whether he violated state law by secretly taking money from his anti-tax campaigns for his own use.
