PORT TOWNSEND — Investigators looking into the cause of Tuesday’s historic McCurdy building blaze said Wednesday that a combination of flammable chemicals may have led to the fire.
Ruling out the possibility of an electrical fire, Assistant Fire Chief Tom Aumock said the fire in the second-floor tattoo parlor might have been caused by cleaning solvent from the business mixing with evaporated chemicals left over from a photography studio previously located there.
“We understand the space was previously used as a photographic studio,” Aumock said. “There was possibly something left over, and we are checking about its flammability.”
