PORT TOWNSEND — The City Council has approved the purchase of the six-acre 35th Street property from Jefferson County for $60,000.
There are no immediate plans for development of the parcel, but council members agreed to set the land at the intersection of 35th and Hastings streets aside as a conservation area and for possible future use as a neighborhood park.
City Manager David Timmons has been meeting with Jefferson County Administrator Charles Saddler to work out the deal, Mayor Kees Kolff said Wednesday.
The move to acquire the site follows nearly 10 years of discussions between the city and county.
