The Port Townsend City Council voted 7-0 Monday night to enter into a contract with the YMCA for city recreational services.
The council voted to authorize City Manager David Timmons to sign a contract with Clallam County YMCA.
A new Jefferson County YMCA will function as a branch of the Clallam organization for the first several years.
Under a draft version of the contract, the city would pay the YMCA $90,000 a year for taking over the city’s recreation programs. The YMCA would eventually offer additional activities.
City Council members on Monday night discussed the need for performance measures that would be used to judge the program’s success.
