PORT TOWNSEND — The Great Port Townsend Texas-Oklahoma Chili Cookoff takes place today at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds starting at 1 p.m.
There are no entry fees and no cash prizes.
Anyone who wants to enter is welcome to cook up a pot of chili and bring it to the fairgrounds shelter, where it will be kept warm on an open barbecue grill.
Judging will start around 2 p.m., according to David Goldsmith, last year’s verde chili winner.
The public is invited to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the afternoon at the fairgrounds.
A horseshoe tournament will also take place and Pete Raab will provide music.
After judging, cooks usually share their chili, Goldsmith said.
