Port Townsend: Adult care home closed by state

PORT TOWNSEND — The state Department of Social and Health Services has revoked the license of an adult family home.

Townsend Manor, which served five dementia patients at 2730 Gise Street, was cited for failing to provide sufficiently trained staff to deal with patients and failure to provide “an environment that promoted quality of life and safety.”

Social and Health Services announced Wednesday that it was shutting down the home after finding the home violated departmental rules following disciplinary action in June.

Bonnie Sexton, the administrator of the home, was notified of the pending shut down on July 23.

“This home has closed and there are no more residents there,” said Pam Hildreth, a Social and Health Services spokeswoman.

Sexton could not be reached for comment Wednesday.

Sexton previously said she had not been prepared for the impaired patients and was trying to meet the department’s requirements as quickly as possible.

“I got licensed several months ago,” Sexton said in June. “I wasn’t prepared for what I got. You just have to learn it.”
