Port of Port Townsend endorses county’s new economic development strategist

PORT TOWNSEND — Jefferson County commissioners have officially approved a Port Hadlock-based nonprofit group to steer the county’s economic development program.

The county commissioners this week designated Diversified Resources as an associate development organization, which qualifies it for funding from the state Department of Community Trade and Economic Development.

Already, the county has a $25,000 contract with Diversified Resources.

During a special meeting Wednesday, Port of Port Townsend commissioners threw their support behind Diversified and the county’s economic development efforts.

During the meeting at the Port’s Point Hudson hospital building, County Administrator John Fischbach told the Port commissioners that state CTED officials have indicated approval of the county’s action regarding Diversified Resources, and state funding to match the county’s contribution was expected to come next week.

“So everything is in place right now,” Fischbach said after the Port meeting.

Fischbach said while the old Jefferson County Economic Development Council no longer has the state’s associate development organization status, “the state has accepted the fact that Jefferson County commissioners have approved another [associate development organization],” meaning Diversified.
