Port of Port Angeles chief gets 4.8 percent salary hike

PORT ANGELES – Bob McChesney, the Port of Port Angeles executive director, has received a 4.8 percent salary increase to $120,000.

The port’s three-person board of commissioners unanimously approved the new contract on Monday after an annual contract review.

The contract, which runs from Aug. 1 until July 31, was delayed because it was due at the same time as the port’s review of its strategic plan, said port commissioner Bill Hannan.

“It just all happened at once, but he’s happy and we’re happy,” he said.

McChesney, 53, was selected in July 2004 to replace longtime executive director Clyde Boddy.

McChesney was the former director of properties and development for the Port of Everett.

He was selected from six candidates who were chosen from a list of 18 semi-finalists.

Sixty-eight originally applied for the position.

The six finalists underwent two days of interviews, tours, meetings and a social hour – and were the subject of extensive background checks.

As executive director, McChesney oversees the port’s marine terminals, marinas and properties on the Port Angeles Harbor waterfront, John Wayne Marina on Sequim Bay, William R. Fairchild International Airport in Port Angeles, airport-area industrial properties, and Sekiu Airport.
