PORT LUDLOW — Four people were rescued Tuesday evening near the entrance to Hood Canal after their 55-foot boat capsized and sank, the Coast Guard said Wednesday.
The Martle was en route to Port Ludlow to weather out a fierce windstorm that was blowing up the Strait of Juan de Fuca and Admiralty Inlet.
Skipper Ed Einarson of Blaine and his crew of two men and one woman were cold but uninjured after they were rescued from a lifeboat off Foulweather Bluff.
The Coast Guard received a distress call about the capsized boat around 5 p.m. Tuesday.
Winds were gusting up to 40 mph and waves were as tall as 6 feet, Coast Guard Petty Officer Kurt Fredrickson said Wednesday from Seattle.
The boat was slammed by several wind-whipped waves before it capsized, Fredrickson reported.
