Port Hadlock woman sent to hospital after single-car wreck

PORT TOWNSEND — A single-car wreck sent a 60-year-old Port Hadlock woman to a Bremerton hospital earlier this week, according to East Jefferson Fire-Rescue.

Patricia Boyd was extricated from her green Subaru Legacy wagon after the wreck on Irondale Road at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, said Bill Beezley, fire department spokesman, Wednesday.

“She was trapped in the van,” Undersheriff Joe Nole said, adding that he had been told that she had a severely injured hand.

A Harrison Medical Center spokesperson said Wednesday evening that she had been discharged.

Beezley and Nole said Fire Chief Gordon Pomeroy initially requested a helicopter to fly her to the hospital but was told weather conditions were too bad to allow it to fly.

Boyd was transported via ambulance to Harrison Medical Center.

“The cause appeared to be speed and driver inattention,” Nole said.

“It went straight off a corner with no skid marks,” he added.

Boyd was traveling eastbound on Irondale Road when she lost control of her car, Beezley said.

The car left the road and struck wires stabilizing a telephone pole before coming to rest on its side in brush alongside the road, he said.

East Jefferson Fire-Rescue firefighters stabilized the vehicle before getting the woman out of the car, Beezley said.

Although fireworks have been banned in the city of Port Angeles, many people used them illegally, leaving behind trash and spent casings and tasking volunteers to pick up the remains.
