PORT ANGELES — A YMCA program targeting teen-agers and “at risk” youth is feeling the effects of agency and state budget cuts.
The YMCA Teen Scene has laid off two part-time staff members and eliminated Saturday hours, and the Clallam County Family YMCA board of directors is considering moving the youth center to a new location to salvage more funds for teen programming, YMCA Director Dan Maguire said Tuesday.
“It’s pretty expensive to run that place when you think about it,” he said.
The 8-year-old Teen Scene, located in a converted warehouse at 325½ W. Second St., houses a newly completed indoor skateboard park, a cafe, pool tables, a television and a recording studio, and provides a safe hangout and numerous programs for mostly at-risk youth.
