PORT ANGELES — About 150 people are expected to attend 14th annual Esprit Gala, a convention that begins Monday and is partly intended to build a better understanding between the transgender and Port Angeles communities.
The term transgender covers cross-dressers, transsexuals and intersexed people.
The conference, which runs Monday through May 18 at the Red Lion Hotel, is expected to fill most of the hotel’s 186 rooms, General Manager Michael Luehrs said Thursday.
Luehrs expects the hotel will be sold out next Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
“In many ways, it makes our whole May, and we plan for it all year,” Luehrs said.
The Esprit Gala is the largest convention for transgendered people in the Pacific Northwest, and downtown merchants are rolling out the red carpet.
