PORT ANGELES — Small-scale farming ventures are a growing industry in Clallam County.
They’re growing so fast that Port Angeles Farmer’s Market vendors want to relocate their thriving concern to the Clallam County Courthouse parking lot.
The existing market space is too small, lacks adequate parking and is not aesthetic, said Nash Huber, a member of the Port Angeles Market Vendor’s Task Force.
Huber asked county commissioners during a meeting Monday to lease a portion of the courthouse parking lot for the farmer’s market.
Currently, produce sellers share space with Gertrud Rohrbach’s craft market, at the intersection of Eighth and Chase streets. Both groups lease space from property owner John Ralston.
Farmers want an alternative site because consumer interest in buying locally grown food is increasing, Huber said.
