PORT ANGELES — After reopening debate, the Port Angeles City Council on Tuesday defeated a motion to back out of litigation between the National Wildlife Federation and the federal government.
The conservation group, in its lawsuit against the Federal Emergency Management Agency, is seeking an injunction against development in flood plains.
The council voted unanimously on Jan. 24 to contribute $1,000 to fight the proposed injunction, which could halt development along its shoreline.
The council reopened debate on the issue after some members questioned whether they had taken action too hastily.
Council member Sissi Bruch motioned to rescind the contribution.
The motion failed 2-5. Bruch and Councilman Max Mania voted yes.
Fifteen other Washington cities have also contributed money for lawyer fees.
