PORT ANGELES — Three city officials who lost the trail during a backpacking trip through Olympic National Park are expected to hike out today with park rangers’ assistance.
Port Angeles City Manager Mike Quinn, Fire Chief Dan McKeen and City Attorney Craig Knutson contacted the park on a satellite phone Wednesday morning, saying they had lost the trail while hiking about 15 miles south of Whiskey Bend, a park dispatcher said Wednesday night.
Rangers were in contact with them throughout the day on the trio’s satellite phone and advised them to spend the night where they were and wait for rangers to reach them today, the dispatcher said.
None of the men is injured.
