PORT ANGELES — A third conference center proposal has emerged seeking the city’s $2 million, 20-year operating subsidy, but it may be too late.
The city has offered developers a $100,000 annual subsidy for 20 years to build and market a conference center downtown.
Ehm Architecture and Ravenhurst Development, both of Seattle, submitted proposals by the city’s Sept. 25 deadline. One of three advisory committees has recommended the City Council select Ehm’s proposal, a $14 million, 154-room hotel and conference center on the 3.75-acre Oak Street property.
Now the Cascadia Center for the Performing and Literary Arts has submitted a proposal to the city for a Cascadia Center on property at Front and Oak streets.
The proposal includes a conference center “far superior to the city’s recent request,” Cascadia Center Vice President Brian Pettyjohn said in an interview Sunday.
