PORT ANGELES — A project to consolidate youth program information in one place received an enthusiastic reception from the City Council on Tuesday night.
The council unanimously agreed to give the project and its creator, Mike Svec of the nonprofit organization United Together, a letter of support to increase the program’s standing in the community.
Port Angeles resident and K-Ply employee Svec is former assistant director of the Clallam County Family YMCA’s Teen Scene club.
He founded Washington United Teens in 2000, which later became United Together, a nonprofit organization focusing on youth programs.
United Together started as an idea in 1998 due to local youth programs duplicating services while still not meeting direct community needs, Svec said.
Youth also were uninformed of local programs, activities and resources, he said.
