PORT ANGELES — A proposed Port Angeles School District tax levy to purchase new computers and bolster technology curriculum was headed toward defeat Tuesday night.
With 7,482 ballots received and tallied in the all-mail election, there were 4,106, or 54.94 percent, no votes against 3,367, or 45.06 percent, yes votes.
A simple majority of 50 percent plus one vote is needed to pass the levy.
About 300 ballots are on hand but still to be counted, and an unknown number of ballots postmarked on or before Tuesday should be received in the mail before the next ballot count on Friday, Clallam County Auditor Patty Rosand said.
She predicted that the uncounted ballots are unlikely to make up the 5 percent margin between defeat and victory.
“That is a pretty big difference,” she said.
