Road closure

FORKS — Forest Service Road 2900, located east of Forks on the Pacific Ranger District, will be closed for about three weeks beginning today (Monday, Aug. 12).

Crews will install a new pipe culvert at Milepost 9.2, Olympic National Forest said.

The new culvert is larger than the existing one and will meet current flow standards while also improving road safety, the Forest Service said.

Road work slated on Highway 19

CHIMACUM — Road work is expected to slow traffic on a portion of state Highway 19 Tuesday and Wednesday (Aug. 13-14)

The work will be done on 1.5 miles of the highway between its intersection with state Highway 104 and Oak Bay Road.

From 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, state Department of Transportation maintenance crews will complete a chip-seal project they began in July.

Motorists driving on both state highways can expect delays of up to 20 minutes.

During the work, traffic on Highway 19 will be slowed to 35 mph approaching the work zone, and a pilot car will escort single alternating lanes of traffic through the site.

At the intersection of 19 and 104, flaggers occasionally will stop 104 traffic to allow 19 traffic to clear.

If the weather is bad, the work will be postponed.

Forest trail closed

OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST — The Upper Mount Ellinor Trailhead near Hoodsport will be closed to the public Aug. 20-21 during construction of a new pre-cast restroom.

Heavy equipment will be required to complete the installation, the Forest Service said.

Delays are to be expected at the intersection of Forest Service Roads 24 and 2419 on Aug. 21 while the crane is in operation.

The area will be reopened as soon as the work has been completed.

Carnival tickets

PORT ANGELES — Pre-sale tickets to the carnival at the Clallam County Fair, which begins Thursday (Aug. 15) and runs through Sunday,
Aug. 18, are available.

Tickets are $25.

Wristbands can be selected for any one day of the fair.

Tickets can be purchased in Port Angeles at Wilder Auto Center, Higher Grounds, Swain’s General Store (no personal checks will be accepted at Swain’s) and the Clallam County Fairgrounds.

They can be purchased in Sequim at Pacific Mist Books and in Forks at Forks Outfitters.

Auditions set

PORT ANGELES — Auditions for the murder mystery-dinner theater production of “You Have the Right to Remain Dead” are set for Saturday (Aug. 17).

Actor-director Ron Graham and his Murders on the Menu company are producing the show, which has a cast of five men and five women.

He’ll hold tryouts — cold readings — from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the playhouse, 1235 E. Lauridsen Blvd.

Appropriate monologues no more than one minute in length can be performed, but not in lieu of the cold readings.

Graham also is seeking crew members: a stage manager and a special effects operator for “You Have the Right to Remain Dead,” which will take the stage at the Red Lion Hotel, 221 N. Lincoln St., on Oct. 19.

To read a synopsis, cast breakdown and excerpt of the play, visit www.

Nearly 150 people provided feedback about a new Hurricane Ridge Lodge project following the 2023 fire that destroyed the original structure. Nine easels were set up with questions and notes were provided for people to express their goals for a new lodge. The earliest construction can begin is in 2028, and it would take two to three years to complete, weather permitting. (Dave Logan/for Peninsula Daily News)
