Port Angeles Swim Club pact sent back for more talks

PORT ANGELES — The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to have city staff resume negotiations with the Port Angeles Swim Club for a new contract governing the club’s use of the municipal pool.

The council also voted 4-3 to table discussion of requiring swim club members to buy annual pool passes pending a comprehensive review of city recreation fees.

Council members Grant Munro, Jack Pittis and Lauren Erickson voted no.

Port Angeles Swim Club members and William Shore Memorial Pool lifeguards and other staff again filled the council chambers to hear the council debate the swim club contract.

The council has debated the issue since January, when swim club members brought it before the City Council after four months of negotiations with city staff.

The negotiations stalled over the issues of requiring swim club members to buy annual passes and reserving the sixth swimming lane for lifeguard training during the time the swim club uses the pool.
