Port Angeles: Stormwater utility arises again; hearing set Tuesday

PORT ANGELES — A revised city stormwater utility ordinance will be the subject of a public hearing at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the council chambers at City Hall, 321 E. Fifth St.

“The proposed stormwater utility does not add staff and will concentrate on construction projects to reduce flooding and erosion problems, improve safety, reduce pollution and improve water quality,” said City Engineer Gary Kenworthy.

The proposed utility charge includes a $3 per unit fee on developed properties, with $3 minimum monthly charge and $30 maximum. A unit is defined as 4,000 square feet of impervious surface.

Since it is a utility charge and not a property tax, the monthly fee will apply to state and federal agencies, school districts, nonprofit agencies and other tax-exempt organizations.
