PORT ANGELES — The builders of the Port Angeles skateboard park need cash donations.
“We have a line of credit, and we”re committed to seeing this project through,” said Cecil White, Nor’wester Rotary Club president, “but the bottom line is, we need money.
“The donations are coming in, and we appreciate everyone who is helping out, but we’re still about $74,000 in cash behind what we need to finish this in the black.”
Nor’wester Rotary is spearheading the effort to build the $200,000-plus Port Angeles Skate Park in a lot in the northeast corner of Erickson Playfield at Fourth and Race streets, just north of the Dream Playground.
The need for a skateboard park has been enthusiastically endorsed by youth leaders, city officials and the Port Angeles School Board.
So far about $120,000 has been raised from community service organizations, businesses, private individuals and through T-shirt sales and other fund-raisers.
In addition, local contractors and companies have donated time and materials.
Construction began on the skatepark in April.
Donations of any amount can be made to “Nor’wester Rotary Skatepark” at any First Federal Savings and Loan Branch, or by contacting Carla Abrams, the club’s project coordinator, at 360-461-3118.
