PORT ANGELES — What began more than three years ago as a presentation to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission finally becomes a concrete reality this weekend.
The Port Angeles Skate Park on Race Street at the northeast corner of Erickson Playfield will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.
“It has been three years, but it doesn’t seem that long,” said Nor’wester Rotary Club member Doc Reiss.
“We’re really happy about it. Port Angeles Mayor Richard Headrick called me and said he’s very pleased with the whole thing.”
The open house will feature speeches by state Rep. Jim Buck, R-Joyce, whose district included Jefferson and Clallam counties, and Nor’wester Rotary Club President Gary Smith. The speeches will be followed by a ribbon cutting by Headrick and others at 11 a.m.
Professional skateboarders
Then professional skateboarders, including Seattle’s Lib-Tech Skate Team, will give skateboarding demonstrations.
The Lib-Tech Skate Team is sponsored by Mervin Manufacturing, which produces high-end, handmade, composite skateboards and operates a snowboard manufacturing plant in Carlsborg.
Music will be provided throughout the day by youth-oriented bands, including B-4 Nightfall, DWR and GLADYS, all from Port Angeles, and the Nihilists from Port Townsend.
