PORT ANGELES – The first expansion of the Port Angeles Senior Services and Community Center since it was dedicated in October 1994 could begin as soon as this month.
Construction would last about six months.
“We’re trying to schedule a bid award for the Aug. 7 City Council meeting. It could start as early as mid-August or the first of September,” said Deputy Recreation Director Bill Sterling.
Bids were opened July 17, and the lowest of two bidders was Aldergrove Construction of Port Angeles at $375,665, including $361,789 for the base bid and $13,875 for the option to convert a men’s restroom to a family restroom.
The other bidder was Drury Construction Co. Inc. of Poulsbo at $514,900, including $498,640 for the base bid and $16,260 for the restroom option.
The city engineer’s estimate was $387,000, including $374,500 for the base bid and $12,500 for the option.
