Port Angeles: Seal pup recuperating in Lynnwood shelter

Good intentions have separated a 2-week-old harbor seal pup from its mother indefinitely.

The seal pup is recuperating at the Progressive Animal Welfare Society shelter in Lynnwood after being “rescued” by campers last Thursday.

“The pup has settled into the rehabilitation process a little and we are hoping that it will continue getting better and eventually be released into the wild,” said John Huckabee, a veterinarian at the shelter.

Huckabee said the seal pup is slightly dehydrated, has a bit of congestion in the lungs and is stressed.

All of the ailments are normal for “rescued” seal pups, he said. Otherwise, the seal pup appears to be in good health.

The two anonymous campers who brought the seal pup in apparently thought it was abandoned on Majestic Beach and brought it to the Feiro Marine Life Center in Port Angeles, officials said.
