PORT ANGELES – It’s election time again.
But unlike last November, there’s just one issue – for the approximately 18,500 registered voters in the Port Angeles School District.
Ballots for the district’s four-year, $30.1 million maintenance and operations levy will be mailed out Wednesday, said Clallam County Elections Supervisor Shoona Radon.
Ballots in the all-mail election must be dropped off by 8 p.m. on Feb. 6 or postmarked by midnight on that day, Radon said.
The proposed levy would account for about 24 percent of the Port Angeles School District’s annual maintenance and operations budget in 2008.
A 60 percent “supermajority” yes vote is required for the measure to pass. Participation of at least 40 percent of those who voted in the last school district election, or 8,169 people, also is required.
The levy has maximum annual collection amounts of $7.51 million in 2008, $7.71 million in 2009, $7.49 million in 2010 and $7.43 million in 2011.
