PORT ANGELES — The Port Angeles School District has been recognized by the Washington School Directors Association for efforts to promote diversity and multicultural education in the community.
School officials were notified Monday that the district had won the Diversity Award.
“This award is a testament to the leadership of our board of directors and the hard work of the Superintendent’s Multi-Ethnic Committee, particularly that of Assistant Superintendent Ron Spanjer,” Superintendent Gary Cohn said Tuesday.
An essay, prepared by a team of district employees, acknowledges the support of the five-member School Board to improve interracial relations in the district and community.
District officials applied for the award in September by submitting the 1,000-word essay describing district accomplishments in diversity and multicultural education.
