Port Angeles: School Board members dislike school-closing proposal

Port Angeles School Board members said Tuesday that they are not in favor of recommendations to close a small elementary school, cut middle school athletics or reduce a Central Office administrator position.

Members met during a work session to discuss cutting the fiscal 2002-2003 budget by $1 million.

The School Board will make a decision on budget cuts March 25.

The board must also consider unknown legislative cuts, to be announced later this week.

Budget cuts under consideration by the School Board include eliminating drivers education and automatic substitutes for some staff positions.

The next work session meeting will be held March 19 at the Central Service Building, 216 E. Fourth St.
