PORT ANGELES — School Board members are expected to approve a $38.68 million operating budget for the Port Angeles School District on Monday night.
The proposed 2004-05 budget carries a deficit of $164,036, which will require the five-member board to dip into the district’s reserves account.
The board meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at the district’s maintenance building, 2912 S. Peabody St., next to the high school campus.
The district must submit a budget to the state Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction by Sept. 1.
During public hearings earlier this month, board members made adjustments to budget figures and instructed district officials to reduce a projected $215,000 deficit — without slashing programs that would affect students.
But after paring back administrative and maintenance costs, district officials said they could not reduce the deficit below $164,036.
Jim Jones, Port Angeles School District business and operations director, said district revenues are expected to total $36,676,455.
Expenditures, however, will total $37,266,451, he added.
