PORT ANGELES — While the beginning of the state Department of Transportation graving yard project was welcomed Wednesday on the waterfront, an undercurrent of concern about future use of the site echoed among community leaders.
The state will use the site for floating bridge projects scheduled until 2007, and then again for work on the Evergreen Point Bridge in 2017. In between, local officials fear the site will sit unused, an empty giant concrete pit on prime Port of Port Angeles industrial waterfront property.
