PORT ANGELES — Port of Port Angeles commissioners have delayed leasing space to the Port Angeles School District for development of a skills center.
Commissioners postponed signing the lease for its building at 1908 O St. after learning that a business is potentially interested in the space.
The unidentified business, a call center, could employ 75 people.
The proposed call center would receive incoming calls from consumers rather than offering telemarketing services, said Tim Smith, Port Angeles city economic development director.
The board delayed its decision until June 10 to give economic development officials time to secure the call center, but still allow the school district to take over the building if the call center deal falls through.
“Leave it open and we’ll get it hammered out,” Clallam County Economic Development Director Jim Haguewood told commissioners Tuesday.
