A resolution passed Monday night by the Port Angeles City Council paves the way for the Port of Port Angeles to purchase a parcel of city land in Lincoln Park.
The 17-acre parcel, located west of L Street between Lauridsen Boulevard and 18th Street, was once used for recreational purposes.
But safety concerns raised in mid-1990s by the Federal Aviation Administration — because of the land’s proximity to a runway at William R. Fairchild International Airport — prompted the city to block public access to the site.
City staff members and officials from the Port have worked toward an agreement with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management in which the Port could use BLM funds to purchase the land from the city.
The land, which has been restricted in usage by FAA rules and holds no real commercial value, has been appraised at $52,500, said Marc Connelly, city director of parks and recreation.
