PORT ANGELES – Police continued to investigate on Saturday who spray-painted obscene graffiti and racial slurs on the Ennis Creek mural on the outside of the Arthur D. Feiro Marine Lab building.
The mural was defaced sometime Thursday night, and has since been covered with a tarp.
Port Angeles Police Chief Terry Gallagher said Saturday that surveillance video from City Pier and the adjacent parking lot is being reviewed to see if it contains anything useful.
No suspects had been identified on Saturday, he said.
Gallagher also asked merchants who sold spray paint in the last few days to contact the police.
“We would be very interested in knowing that,” he said.
“That kind of information has proved useful in the past, particularly if the store has surveillance video.”
City Public Works Director Glenn Cutler said no damage amount estimate was available on Friday.
Gallagher said similar racial slurs have been painted around town at times, although he can’t remember the last time.
There’s been nothing of this magnitude for several years, he said.
