PORT ANGELES — Peninsula College officials have decided to permanently close the college’s two-story dormitory at the end of the summer.
College officials say low numbers of students living in the dorms, the dated condition of the building and loss of revenue over consecutive years filtered into their decision to close the campus’ only residence hall.
“The residence hall has never been a moneymaker for the college,” said Barbara M. Martin, Peninsula College’s vice president of administrative services.
“The demand is so low that it does not make good business sense.”
Martin said the dormitory, located on the southwest side of campus, hold up to 82 students in single- or double-occupancy rooms.
Only 30 students have signed up to live in dorm rooms during the spring quarter, she said.
