PORT ANGELES – A supposed TV news interview kept Hamilton Elementary School’s nationally noted physical education teacher from sleeping well for two weeks.
“I just kept thinking, what would they want to talk to me for?” said Krista Winn.
“Of course they said it was because of my PE teacher of the year stuff.”
It all seemed logical.
Winn is the current national physical fitness elementary teacher of the year as selected by the National Association of Sport and Physical Education, so her interview by Seattle TV station KING made sense.
But Monday’s events in the Hamilton gym became a surprise Monday when a horn sounded and the Seattle SuperSonics hairy mascot, Squatch, ran into the big room amid the cheers of the students.
KING-TV’s “Evening Magazine” got it all on tape for airing later this month.
In the meantime, Winn will be an honored guest at a Sonics game to meet a basketball idol.
