PORT ANGELES — The shooting death of 33-year-old Carmen D. Hudson Jr. by two Port Angeles Police officers in September was justified, the Clallam County Prosecuting Attorney has determined.
“It is my finding that this homicide should be classified as justifiable and that the officers’ actions were appropriate in the defense of both Mr. Hudson’s girlfriend and themselves,” Prosecutor Deb Kelly wrote after reviewing a Washington State Patrol investigation into the shooting.
Her finding was contained in a letter to Police Chief Tom Riepe dated Nov. 21, and a copy was obtained by the Peninsula Daily News on Wednesday.
Kelly’s determination refers to the Sept. 15 shooting of Hudson by Cpl. Tyler Peninger and Sgt. Glen Roggenbuck when they responded to a domestic violence call at the North Vine Street home of Hudson’s former girlfriend.
