PORT ANGELES — Clearing and grading of land and demolition of old buildings will continue this week at the Marine Drive graving yard site, according to Project Manager Ron Lewis.
Excavation of almost 200,000 cubic yards of soil also will continue as preparations begin for drilling the foundation of the massive facility.
Kiewit-General of Poulsbo, a joint operation of Kiewit Building Group and General Construction, was awarded the $204 million contract in June for the Port Angeles graving yard and Hood Canal Bridge replacement and retrofit project.
Included in the contract are replacement of the eastern half of the floating bridge between Jefferson and Kitsap counties in 2006 and construction of the graving yard facility where the pontoons and concrete anchors for the bridge will be built.
The graving yard will be dug west of downtown between Hill Street and the Daishowa America Ltd. paper mill on Marine Drive.
