A Clallam County Superior Court jury on Thursday convicted the man charged with robbing the downtown Port Angeles Bank of America branch in January.
The 12-person jury found Benjamin Michael Arredondo, 38, innocent of first-degree robbery but guilty of the alternative crime of first-degree theft.
Arredondo’s sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. June 6 before Judge George L. Wood in Superior Court. The crime carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $20,000 fine.
Arredondo walked into the downtown bank Jan. 8, hopped over the counter, filled a bag with $1,500 from the teller’s drawer, fled up the stairs behind the Laurel Street fountain and escaped in a stolen pickup truck, according to charging papers.
He was on the run until March, when Las Vegas police arrested him for allegedly trespassing at a public pool.
