PORT ANGELES — A man who apparently brandished a shotgun and two handguns toward police officers was shot and killed by the officers Monday night.
Police Chief Tom Riepe did not identify either the man or the officers who shot him near an alley behind 502 E. Front St.
But witnesses said the man might be a 33-year-old restaurant cook who lived in the neighborhood and earlier had a squabble with a woman inside the house.
Police responded about 9:30 p.m. to a report of a “domestic situation” in the two-story, wood-frame house at the southwest corner of Front and Vine streets.
The man fled when police arrived, Riepe said, but he soon returned carrying a shotgun and two handguns.
Two officers ordered him “numerous” times to lower the weapons, Riepe said, which the man did — and then he raised the shotgun again.
That’s when he was shot and killed.
