Port Angeles: Interim assistant principal named at high school

PORT ANGELES — School district officials have selected a 31-year employee to be interim assistant principal at Port Angeles High School next year.

Mary Ann Unger will fill the position left vacant last week when Scott Harker was elevated to interim principal.

The changes at the high school were sparked when Michelle Reid, who has been school principal since 2000, accepted a position as Port Angeles School District’s assistant superintendent for curriculum and assessment.

Pat Kane, who has served as the high school’s other assistant principal since 2000, will remain in his position.

Unger will begin her new job Sept. 1.

District Superintendent Gary Cohn said Unger was the unanimous choice among high school leaders.

“Her extensive experience in curriculum, instruction and assessment, as both instructor and program director, will be an invaluable asset to the high school,” Cohn said.
