Port Angeles: Ice arena proposal could be ready next month

PORT ANGELES — Supporters of an ice rink and indoor tennis and soccer complex will begin presenting their proposal to the City Council and public next month.

The facility has been proposed for an area across West 16th Street from the Clallam County Fairgrounds.

That’s the word from City Councilman Gary Braun, who supports the project.

“We’ll know more in a couple weeks,” he said Wednesday. “Then we will show what we have come up with and see what the public thinks and what the council says.”

Braun first publicly broached the idea of an ice arena at a Port Angeles Chamber of Commerce luncheon last March.

In December, Braun suggested the proposed ice arena could be built at Lincoln Park, along with a new swimming pool and perhaps indoor soccer and tennis facilities.

But the proposed complex may now be located on 8-plus acres on West 16th Street, across from the Clallam County Fairgrounds.
