Port Angeles: Human Society hopes to raise funds from public who drops off animals

Supporters of the Clallam County Humane Society are hoping community members will donate money to help animals that arrive at the shelter with emergency needs.

When animals are taken to the Humane Society, many are injured or sick and need immediate veterinary care, said Sue Miles, a Port Angeles Humane Society volunteer and member of Welfare for Animals Guild.

Because of budget restraints, shelter staff has little funding for animals needing veterinary care, Miles said.

“Right now there is no money for special medical treatment and we must care for the animals,” said Vickie Wilson, shelter manager for the Clallam County Humane Society.

“Money people donate for this fund is not for the shelter; it is for the animals that come in here.”

Currently when animals need care, money is taken from the shelter’s tight operating budget, she said.
