Port Angeles: Hospital district OKs property purchases

PORT ANGELES — Olympic Medical Center increased its holdings Wednesday night when hospital district commissioners approved the purchase of two Caroline Street properties.

Commissioners approved the purchase of properties at 926 Caroline St. and 928 Caroline St. The properties, owned by Douglas and Betty Hendricks, are directly across from Olympic Medical Center, 939 Caroline St.

Commissioners approved spending $340,000 for the parcels, which include two buildings.

Hospital officials have yet to decide if the buildings will be used or razed.

The property could be used for medical offices, but there are no definite plans at this time, hospital Assistant Administrator Kenneth Birkes said.

The health care district, which serves residents from the Lake Crescent east to the county line, owns a number of medically-related businesses in Sequim and Port Angeles.

And in recent years, the district has purchased a number of residential properties near the hospital in Port Angeles.

In another property-related matter, commissioners approved listing houses the district owns at 1025 Georgiana St. and 1027 Georgiana St. as surplus to make room for additional daytime off-site parking for hospital employees. The two houses have a total value of about $8,000.

Birkes said parking at the hospital has become a critical issue.
